My Healing Herbal Hair & Body Oil Recipe (From The Beauty Rituals Of Ancient Princesses)
winter is for hot baths & drenching your hair & body in healing herbal oils🌿
Hi guys!
I am so beyond excited to write you this substack- I am really having the best day. My chickens laid their very first eggs today, I have fresh milled sourdough chocolate chip cookies in the oven to have with raw milk while I write this, & I just finished making a refill of my absolute favorite healing herbal hair + body oil. Ancient medicinal woods are burning for the most delicious smell (aloeswood), beeswax candles are glowing, and my favorite playlist, fauna realm, is playing.
The vibes are set.
I absolutely love ancient medicinal luxuries, they truly are a major part of the lost art of living well.
And winter nights (we are about to be snowed in in Santa Fe) with a hot bath, beeswax candles burning, herbal tea, and applying a healing herbal oil to your hair & body? I mean that is basically my night routine alll winter- and it’s made me completely fall in love with this season.
I have a full post on learning how to winter like an ancient princess here. It’s all about the ancient nourishment.
So in this post, I wanted to share with you the recipe for my favorite herbal hair & body oil (yes, it’s incredible for both- and has insane benefits!)
It’s crazy that most body oils are filled with seed oils, endocrine disruptors, & PFA’s.
This hair & body oil recipe not only smells incredible, but it’s low PUFA, is filled with benefits, & leaves my hair and skin so nourished & soft. So let’s get into it, shall we?
The Benefits:
Sandalwood: soothes inflammation, fights acne, hydrates skin, and reduces signs of aging like dark spots and scars, thanks to its anti-inflammatory, astringent, and antioxidant properties (alpha-santalol, beta-santalol). It promotes smoother, clearer, and more youthful-looking skin by balancing oil, improving texture, supporting skin regeneration, and minimizing imperfections, making it great for acne-prone, dry, or mature skin. For the hair it also moisturizes and strengthens dry, brittle hair ends, reducing split ends and breakage
Frankincense: rejuvenates skin by reducing wrinkles, scars, and discoloration, soothing inflammation (eczema, redness), balancing oil production for acne, and improving elasticity; it also helps ease minor muscle/joint aches due to its anti-inflammatory properties, supports healing, and acts as an antiseptic. It benefits the hair ends by moisturizing, strengthening strands, reducing split ends, adding shine, and preventing breakage due to its hydrating, astringent, and antioxidant properties!
Rose Otto: Deeply hydrates and softens skin by drawing in and locking moisture while calming redness, irritation, and rosacea through its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Rich in antioxidants (citronellol, geraniol), it supports the skin barrier, reduces water loss, promotes cell turnover, and helps fade scars and hyperpigmentation for a smoother, plumper, more even complexion. For hair, it acts like a penetrating emollient that smooths the cuticle, restores elasticity to dry ends, eliminates frizz, adds high-gloss shine, and protects against breakage and environmental damage!
